Face it. Picking the right engineering firm is often more of a gamble than you'd like. If you wanted excitement, you'd have gone to Vegas.

What you want is a firm that has experience, industry knowledge, and, of course, innovative ideas. It also wouldn't hurt if the firm had a track record of delivering projects in a timely manner, and had the respect of the Contractors doing the actual work in the field.

Who you want, is Székely Engineering.

Founded in 1983, Székely Engineering is a one-person full service shop providing personalized service in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection Engineering, providing services ranging from investigation and reports to design and engineering, from project schematics through completion of construction, including extensive shop drawing review and supervision of system commissioning. Familiarity with, and reliance upon, state of the art software (much of which has been developed in-house) provides Székely Engineering with a force multiplier which has allowed it to complete several dozen projects and assignments in a year, each in less time and of higher quality than the average shop with a half dozen or more employees.

Székely Engineering's projects get built with far fewer headaches than many others in this business as each trade's drawings has all the other trades' work (sans annotations) shown in halftone along with the architectural background, with things like electrical disconnect switches included as part of the CAD blocks of mechanical equipment so the plans are physically coordinated, with those blocks populating the electrical plans with Code-mandated local disconnects as mechanical equipment is laid into the all trades base plan.

Click here for an annotated and highlighted example, excerpted from a townhouse project wich included a swimming pool as an extension of an existing cellar, where the existing foundation is depicted graphically as boulders and the extension as an ANSI31 architectural diagonal hatch. In addition to the yellow highlighting and red annotation pointing out salient features of such "precoordinated" plans, note, in the second callout from the top along the left side of the leftmost plan, direction given to the Mechanical Contractor to coordinate with the GC so as to allow the penetration for a new toilet exhaust duct to be included as that part of the general contract work making the hole in the existing foundation wall for the door between the existing cellar and new pool.

Thomas Székely is registered in New York and Connecticutand has over fifty years experience in engineering and construction, having done everything from electrical power and control engineering for nuclear power plants, paper mills, and chemical plants, to soup to nuts MEP/SP engineering on cookie-cutter as well as luxury single and multi-family residential projects.Prior to the formation of Székely Engineering, he worked for premier commercial consulting engineering firms such as Cosentini and Lehr as a Project Manager, as well as heavy industrial and process construction engineering firms including Bechtel and Lummus as an Electrical Designer.

Please get in touch with us for more information and to join our mailing list. We look forward to working with you, and showing you what an engineering firm should be.

And now, for something completely different . . . the name is the same. (and she calls me DaDa.)
